"Vignette Exploration"

Today, we learned, or for some of us reviewed, what a vignette is and even practiced writing one. A vignette is a brief description or literary sketch that focuses on detailed perspective of a design or a illustraion of some sort. We wrote two vignettes. One was practice and focused on a snapshot of a woodland with a stream. My "practice" vignette was this: The smell of pine needles fills the atmosphere. The glorious green grass presents its shiny skin to the sky. The mountain stares down at his kingdom of trees while commanding their up most respect. Mr. River flows and winds through the rocks and is slowly carves out the land like Michelangelo carving his precious David out of marble. The Sun hugs leafs of each and every tree turning them into colors of lush orange and Auburn. Leafs seem to compete with each over who will bear the prettier color of them all. Finally, the great brown bear rules the forest with an iron fist. He’s the butcher of the forest; constantly slashing at the fish to find his next meal. As you look at the woodland from a top view, only one word comes to mind—magnificence.

My first vignette was based off this picture:

My second vignette focused on an animal that I saw at Cox Arboretum, which was a dog.

Here is my second vignette: We walk down the lightly painted road that leads to the almighty tree tower. Grass boarders the path like a frame around a picture. Then a rush of energy surged up from the bellows of are kidneys. Suddenly a rush of adrenaline consumed our bodies as we saw the pale face of a wolf like creature, yet it was so untypical. Its fangs were dull knifes that barley greeted us with a smile. Then we realized it was the wolf’s domestic cousin: a dog. This dog truly represented the word dingy. It had this sense of helplessness and it seemed that his spirit was only driven by his duty. Duty of chasing geese for eternity. He looked like the one gloomy gray cloud on a sunny day. His ears drooped like curtains that covered half of his face. His tail was a still broom brushing that left overs of leafs on the yellow path. We wanted to know what this creatures name was and we were extremely surprised of the answer. For such a slow dog, the k-9 was named: “Zip”.

My second vignette was based of this picture:
